Flatlander Pediatrician: Spring Comes To Southwestern Vermont

Readers, I'm traveling, so enjoy this post from Dr. Marty Luloff our newest pediatrician.

Mark

Now that the snowbanks have started to disappear and the dirt road up to my home has become a series of trenches, I realize that ITS Spring in Southwestern Vermont. Note..we dont call it MUD SEASON!!.. Its been six months here at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and its time to take stock of my first fall and winter as a member of the medical staff.

I have to say, without sounding like too much of a cheerleader, that its been all good. The challenges of starting up a new practice in an area where no one knew me from a hole in the wall has been exciting and has helped me understand why I love primary care pediatrics as much as I do. Meeting new families and becoming a part of their lives has been energizing and fullfilling. Being back in the delivery room and having to resuscitate unstable or critically ill newborns has been a little frightening but also incredibly rewarding..and having the opportunity to work alongside caring, devoted and competent nurses has made the experience all the more special.

Coming into a pediatric community that had been through some signifigant turmoil preceding this fall raised some concerns..but..I have to say that the spirit of collegiality and support among the pediatric providers couldn't be better. I continue to be impressed with the quality of care that is provided to the children in our area by my pediatric colleagues as well as the ER physicians here at SVMC. There have been a few bumps along the way..learning a new dictation system, knowing whom to call for what, realizing that instead of being the boss I am now an employee of a healthcare institution and sometimes things take a bit longer to get done..but they do get done.

I hope spring and summer provide me with the same great feelings I carry with me today (providing the ruts in my road get evened out and the "washboard" hasn't thrown my wheel alignment out the door.)

I hope everyone in VT realizes their good fortune in having Dr. Luloff among the pediatricians available. He was the our pedi for many years and also had my grandaughter prior to his move. He is one of the most caring, energetic, sypathetic, and intelligent doctors I have ever known. Please enjoy his talents.
